G.A.R. Post 153

The Stoughton G.A.R. post was named in honor of First Sergeant Philo C. Buckman (1834-1862) of Company D, 7th WI Inf, KIA at Gainesville, VA  on 28 Aug 1862, resident of Stoughton* and a local hero.  G.A.R. post 153 was organized on 29 Mar 1884 and disbanded in 1934.

*Philo C. Buckman enlisted on Aug 10, 1861 in Stoughton signed by Capt. Giles for a term of 3 years.  He mustered into service on Aug 26, 1861 in Madison at the age of 25.
