Congregational Church – 

1857 Cooksville Presbyterian church unanimously voted to move their place of worship to Stoughton. 

1863 name changed to First Congregational Church of Stoughton. 

1863 First house of worship erected on a lot donated by Luke Stoughton, located on the SE corner of Jefferson and Fifth Streets. 

Robert Sewell was the only pastor, except for one year, until his death in 1874.  

In 1903, the old church was sold and removed, and on June 25th, the cornerstone for a new building was laid.  

The congregation voted to disband in 1944, and the church building was sold to the American Legion.
